How WebID Is Setting the Benchmark for Digital Trust in Iberia
Interview with Raúl Aleixandre, Country Sales Manager Iberia at WebID Solutions

Raúl, could you tell us about your professional background? How has your career evolved and what led you to join WebID Solutions to lead the Iberian market?
My career has always been driven by a desire to build, scale, and explore what’s next. After finishing university and spending more than six years living in the UK, I returned to Spain and co-founded a real estate agency in Madrid with my partner—now my wife. We grew the company to a team of 10 people and achieved strong financial results, but over time I felt increasingly drawn to the emerging world of technology and startups.
That curiosity led me to make a strategic pivot: a conscious step back to relaunch my career in a direction I was truly passionate about.
I joined Afterbanks during its growth phase, where I experienced first-hand the transition from startup to scale-up and the acquisition by Minsait (Indra). It was a true masterclass in APIs, product development, RFPs, and the fast-paced world of tech sales.
Later, I moved into an international senior role at Finleap Connect (now Qwist), helping expand German open finance expertise into the Iberian market. It was a demanding and rewarding journey that taught me resilience and the importance of aiming higher.
The real turning point came with Casavo, an Italian proptech, where my two professional worlds—real estate and deep technology—finally converged. As part of the management team, we scaled operations and consistently exceeded KPIs until a strategic market shift led to a mass layoff. While challenging, that experience became a catalyst for my next chapter.
When I evaluated my next move, WebID stood out clearly. It was the missing “X-Tech” piece that connects fintech, proptech, and regtech. Leading WebID’s expansion in Iberia as Country Sales Manager is the perfect challenge for this moment. With the explosion of AI-powered fraud and the total shift toward digital identity, I’m leveraging more than a decade of experience in finance, real estate, and technology to replicate WebID’s German success in Spain.
I’m not just working in a sector—I’m helping build the foundation of digital trust in Spain.
WebID has a strong presence in markets such as Germany. How would you describe the company’s positioning within the European digital identity ecosystem?
WebID is a true pioneer in online Video Identification and one of the strongest digital identity providers in Germany. Today, more than 80% of German financial institutions use some of our solutions.
Our core offering combines automated identity verification—ID capture, data extraction, selfie and liveness detection—with a key differentiator: the ability to integrate a live video call or a full process review by a specially trained human agent. This is essential to meet BaFin compliance requirements and is supported by our own infrastructure of over 1,100 trained agents across six European locations, operating in multiple languages.
On top of this, our solutions can be combined with digital signatures, account holder verification, age verification, and more.
We are also expanding our product portfolio with solutions such as Corporate ID for KYB processes and Fraud ID Protect, which includes penetration testing to detect vulnerabilities and deliver actionable security recommendations.
And looking ahead, WebID is already deeply involved in the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI). We currently manage over 22 million reusable digital identities and are actively working to enable our wallet for full EUDI compatibility.
On a personal level, what motivates you to work in digital identity, compliance, and fraud prevention?
Digital identity is no longer a technical niche—it’s one of the most critical topics of our time.
Over the past year, I’ve had the opportunity to actively participate in industry discussions as a speaker and panelist at multiple events. These conversations have reinforced my conviction that the rules of the game have fundamentally changed.
We are witnessing the professionalisation of cybercrime. Fraud is no longer driven by isolated hackers but by sophisticated Crime-as-a-Service (CaaS) ecosystems, powered by generative AI and operating at massive scale.
Being at WebID places me at the forefront of this battle. Our solutions are not just reacting to fraud—we study its evolution to stay one step ahead.
What truly differentiates WebID is our Human-in-the-Loop philosophy. While fraud is becoming increasingly automated, defense must become more intelligent. A trained human agent can detect subtle signals—deepfake inconsistencies, signs of coercion, or social engineering—that even advanced AI can still miss.
My ultimate motivation is solving what I call the “identity paradox”: stopping world-class fraud without destroying the user experience. At WebID, we prove that high compliance and superior UX can coexist. Users should feel safer, not more frustrated, when verifying their identity.
How do you see identity verification evolving, and what impact is it having on industries like banking, fintech, or telecom?
The future of identity verification is not about choosing between AI or humans—it’s about hybrid intelligence.
While AI is essential for speed and scale, the most sophisticated fraud—especially AI-driven deepfakes—still requires human judgment. WebID’s VideoID remains a gold standard because it keeps a human presence in the digital flow.
This approach delivers three critical layers of value:
Deepfake mitigation: Human agents can perform real-time challenges that current deepfake tools cannot reliably simulate.
Coercion detection: Humans can sense hesitation or off-camera pressure that automated systems completely miss.
Inclusion and conversion: Human support ensures that legitimate users with damaged documents or lower digital skills are not excluded.
In banking and fintech, this level of assurance is essential for high-value transactions such as mortgages or credit lines. In telecom, VideoID enables a remote “store-like” experience, preventing fraudulent SIM registrations while preserving a personal touch.
Which regulatory and market trends will accelerate digital identity adoption in Spain?
Spain is aligning closely with rigorous European standards, particularly around Human-in-the-Loop identity verification, while preparing for the shift introduced by eIDAS 2.0.
Regulators such as SEPBLAC, much like Germany’s BaFin, maintain strict requirements for human oversight in high-risk onboarding processes. This cements VideoID as a dominant solution in Spanish banking and fintech.
At the same time, the rollout of the European Digital Identity Wallet by the end of 2026 will be a major accelerator. Interoperability across borders will become mandatory, allowing citizens to onboard digitally across Europe with the highest level of legal certainty.
Finally, the upcoming EU Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR) will harmonize onboarding requirements across the continent. Spain’s traditionally high standards are likely to become the European benchmark—creating a significant opportunity for high-assurance, human-assisted identity solutions.
Looking ahead, what role do you want WebID to play in the Iberian digital ecosystem?
My goal is for WebID to become the definitive identity anchor in the Iberian market.
We are bringing a proven, battle-tested model from Germany—one built on the highest security standards and full regulatory compliance—to help Spanish and Portuguese companies navigate the most complex fraud landscape we’ve ever seen.
We already work with major financial institutions such as BBVA, Santander Consumer Finance, and Openbank across different regions. Our priority is to deepen and expand these relationships locally, while also supporting other industries undergoing digital transformation, including real estate, insurance, mobility, and renting.
In short, we want WebID to be the trusted go-to identity verification partner for any Iberian company that needs a solution that works, meets every regulatory requirement, and delivers an excellent user experience.
